What is SMP - Scalp Micropigmentation

SMP - Scalp Micropigmentation

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a procedure designed for individuals experiencing hair thinning or hair loss, where micro-pigments are applied to the scalp to create the appearance of hair follicles. This technique provides a look of fuller hair and a natural hairline effect.

What is Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)?

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a procedure designed for individuals experiencing hair thinning or hair loss, where micro-pigments are applied to the scalp to create the appearance of hair follicles. This technique provides a look of fuller hair and a natural hairline effect.

How Does SMP Work?

During an SMP session, specialized pigments are embedded into the scalp using a sterile micro-needle. These pigments form small dots that mimic natural hair follicles. Since the process is completed in stages, sessions are spread over time to gradually build a natural look. Typically, 2-3 sessions are recommended, depending on the level of hair loss.

Who is it For?

SMP is suitable for both men and women experiencing hair loss, those wanting to define their hairline, individuals with thinning hair, or anyone with scalp scars. This procedure appeals to people of all ages and offers a permanent, effective alternative, especially for those hesitant about surgical solutions.

Benefits of SMP

  • Natural Look: Creates the appearance of hair follicles, giving a realistic look.

  • Long-lasting Solution: The pigments are designed to last for years.

  • Quick Recovery: As a minimally invasive procedure, recovery time is short.

  • Low Maintenance: Requires no daily upkeep and enhances overall quality of life.

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) Aftercare

Proper aftercare is essential for Scalp Micropigmentation to heal well and to achieve long-lasting, natural-looking results. Following these simple guidelines will help ensure the pigments settle smoothly and your scalp stays healthy:

First 4 Days After SMP

  • Avoid Water and Sweating: Keep your scalp dry. Avoid any contact with water, including showers, steam rooms, swimming pools, and sweat-inducing activities.

  • No Touching or Scratching: Refrain from touching, rubbing, or scratching the treated area, as this can dislodge pigments and affect the final result.

Days 5-10 After SMP:

  • Light Moisturizing: After day 5, you can gently apply a fragrance-free moisturizer to keep the scalp hydrated. Consult with your SMP specialist for recommended products.

  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Sun exposure can cause fading and interfere with healing. If you must go outside, wear a hat or stay in shaded areas.

  • Continue to Avoid Heavy Sweat: Keep physical activity minimal to avoid sweating.

After 10 Days:

  • Gently Wash the Scalp: You can wash your scalp gently with mild, fragrance-free shampoo. Avoid scrubbing the treated area.

  • Avoid Sun Exposure Long-term: UV rays can cause pigment fading over time. Use sunscreen (SPF 30+) on your scalp when you’re outside or continue to wear hats.

  • No Shaving Until Fully Healed: Avoid shaving or using electric razors on the scalp until it’s completely healed. Generally, after 10 days, gentle trimming is okay, but consult your SMP artist for personalized advice.

Long-term Care:

  • Moisturize Daily: To keep your scalp looking its best, apply a gentle moisturizer daily.

  • Avoid Harsh Products: Stay away from products with alcohol, strong fragrances, or aggressive exfoliants, as they can affect pigment longevity.

  • Touch-up Sessions: SMP is a long-lasting solution, but a touch-up may be needed every 2-4 years to maintain color vibrancy.
